In this episode, Byron talks about memory and intelligence.
Transcript
Computers have memory, both fast and slow, and they have processors. These are distinctly different systems, manufactured in completely different buildings from each other.
Human brains however co-mingle memory and processing. That’s why computers aren’t a very good metaphor for thinking about brains. The song Jingle Bells is not stored anywhere in your brain, but if you have it on your computer, it exists in a real physical location.
We don’t know how it is that we are intelligent, and duplicating our intelligence in a machine is even more problematic given how different computers and brain actually are.
