Can a computer be creative? AGI advocates say "yes," and they point to music already written by algorithms, or the moves performed by AlphaGo when it played Lee Sedol in the game Go. But is that, in fact, creativity or is it something that simply looks like creativity? It’s a very hard question to answer.
There is no definition, no agreement whatsoever as to the source of creativity. And yet when you consider Salvador Dali's paintings or the work of the graffiti artist, Banksy, it sure feels like their work was created, for the first time, by their minds. If this is the case, it’s going to be hard to get a program to be legitimately creative.
