In this episode, Byron talks about jobs and automation.

Transcript

We spent the last ten episodes going through a test, located at Gigaom.com/quiz that tries to score whether a job is going to be replaced by automation. Can you think of a perfect 0 job? That would be a job that is actually absolutely impervious to being automated? Maybe a hostage negotiator with a rookie partner; they're managing somebody, there's emotional connection, they have to move around, no two would do it the same way, and so forth. On the other hand, what would be a job that would reach 100, where every single aspect of it can be automated? That might be the order taker at the fast food restaurant.

The goal is not to find any job near zero. Anything below 70 is probably safe enough for you to have a long career. The reason that is is even a 70 clearly has three things that got zeros, or something like that - three key components of that job that would be incredibly difficult to automate. So, there are many jobs that are, say, below an 80, that would be incredibly difficult to automate. And I think most jobs that go through the test show that the number of jobs that are truly automatable is actually quite small.
