In this episode Byron talks about rooting for the machines.

Transcript

Claude Shannon wrote a paper in 1949 about how a computer might play chess. This was a big deal because it was one of the first people who saw computers as something other than fancy calculators. And you can draw a line from what Claude Shannon thought about computers to where we are today.

But Claude Shannon made an interesting quote, he said, “I visualize a time when we will be to robots what dogs are to humans, and I am rooting for the machines.” What about you, are you rooting for the machines? Would you like to have a benevolent robotic overlord who provided you everything you need and safety and security, or do you prefer our more problem-prone society?
