Wearables, job-hunting, emotional health, net neutrality

  • Horus, a new AI wearable from Swiss startup Erya is helping the blind better navigate the world. The device uses machine learning and AI to analyze data fed from cameras and sensors and deliver situational information audibly.
  • Google's CEO Sundar Pichai remarked that in an A.I.-first world, Google is rethinking all their products. Pichai also announced a new initiative "Google for Jobs" designed to making job-hunting easier.
  • AI will soon be used to monitor emotional health. Affectiva, an emotion measurement technology company is using machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision to emotionally inform robotics, education, experiential marketing, and more.
  • On Thursday, May 18, the FCC voted 2-1 in favor of starting the process of dismantling net neutrality rules and changing the classification of home and mobile internet providers as common carriers. Under Title II of the Communications Act, the vote pushes forward the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that seeks to remove the Title II classification.
