In this episode, Byron talks about biology versus machines.
Transcript
We are, by some people's reckoning, just controlled self-sustaining chemical reactions in a bag of skin--controlled self-sustaining chemical reactions. Now imagine an alien species of machines and let's say they found a human, a living human, would they believe that that human was alive? Would they think that that human was intelligent, and would they think that human was conscious? It would seem to me that to a machine, biology would look quite random and it would be akin to us looking at a hurricane and assuming that that hurricane is alive as well.
