There's been a lot of talk about ethics and artificial intelligence. Where do you think we’re going to get a standard of ethical practices with relationship to AI? I don't believe there's any way in the world that government is going to lead here. In democracies, generally speaking, governments never lead. Rather, they always try to stay in front of a bigger crowd. Also, I don't think that the technical acumen of our legislative bodies is up to legislating the subtleties of AI ethics.

The most powerful force in society, actually, is public opinion. And public opinion is what is going to determine our AI practices. It's fair, therefore, to ask, how is public opinion shaped? Now, of course, it's shaped in many ways but in large part it's shaped by media--both social and traditional. Media, in turn, is driven by a whole host of factors which by extension will be the forces that drive the limits, the restraints, or the lack of both on artificial intelligence.
